How We’re Keeping Our Customers and Employees Safe During COVID-19
July 6, 2020 11:27 pm Leave your thoughtsWe are living in unprecedented times right now. Things have possibly never seemed more uncertain, and everyone we know is making their way the best they know how to do. This extends to our business, where we are putting in a number of safety guidelines and parameters to ensure our employees and customers stay safe and sound and our business continues to move forward and serve those who rely on us.
COVID-19 compliance in Minnesota is something we take very seriously at K-Way Express, Inc., and we are proud to be among the industry leaders in staying up to date on recommendations and best practices.
Truck stops and rest areas
As a transportation company, it comes with the territory that our drivers need to make stops at public rest areas for sleep, refueling and food. These areas can seem like they’d pose a high risk, but our drivers have been trained on the best ways to stay safe during their stops. This includes practicing social distancing, wearing masks and frequently washing their hands to make sure they’re doing everything they can to keep clean and safe. COVID-19 compliance in Minnesota starts with instilling this discipline and pride in our drivers, and we are proud of how our team has stepped up to the challenge.
PPE
Personal protective equipment (or PPE) has quickly embedded itself in the public consciousness during this pandemic. Our drivers are always kept supplied with gloves, masks and sanitizer to keep both themselves and other employees and clients safe, but it doesn’t end there. The trucking and transportation industry as a whole has responded collectively, and we are happy to say that the American Trucking Associations has worked to provide drums of sanitizer along major transit corridors to ensure no driver ever has to worry about running out of this critical supply. Our drivers are working hard to sanitize themselves and their equipment regularly as a result.
Reducing exposure
One of the good things about truck drivers and COVID-19 compliance in Minnesota is that, often for long stretches, this is a solitary job. This means social distancing is a given, as our drivers spend hours at a time alone in their truck cabs. Nevertheless, they still do encounter others from time to time. In response, we train our drivers on social distancing and other CDC-approved best practices, including staying home if they’re sick and having plans as to what they should do if they become sick while on the road.
